Black Europeans to Host Inaugural Minorities Summit 2025 in London During Europe Day Week
Event to unite minority ethnic EU citizens and groups in developing a racial equity action plan to challenge systemic exclusion across Europe
LONDON, UK – 7 April 2025 — Black Europeans is proud to announce the Minorities Summit 2025 (MS2025), taking place in London during the week of Europe Day. The landmark event will bring together Black and minority ethnic grassroots organisers, EU citizens, and community leaders from across Europe and the UK to build a collective racial equity strategy and challenge systemic exclusion in EU institutions.
The Summit builds on the success of the European Minority Ethnic Citizens (EUROMEC) Monitoring Network and represents a critical moment in the ongoing campaign to hold EU institutions accountable to their motto: “United in Diversity.”
"Despite commitments to anti-racism and diversity, minority ethnic EU citizens continue to face systemic barriers in representation, policy, and access," said a spokesperson for Black Europeans. "MS2025 is about creating a seat at the table and using it to drive lasting, community-led change at both national and EU levels."
Key Objectives of MS2025:
Launch a Lived Experience (LEx) Racial Equity Action Plan to be submitted to EU Commission bodies and Member States.
Establish Black Europeans chapters across EU countries and third countries.
Promote the Minorities REACT Framework, a practical roadmap for systemic change in partnership with EU stakeholders.
The event will feature targeted workshops, cultural performances, food, and networking, all designed to foster collaborative, actionable strategies. Community-led workshop proposals are currently being accepted, particularly those with an intersectional lens exploring how race intersects with other social identities in EU policies.
Background and Significance:
Black Europeans was established in response to the discrimination faced by EU citizens of colour post-Brexit, including challenges with the EU Settlement Scheme and underrepresentation in the Third Sector. The organisation has been instrumental in launching the EUROMEC Monitoring Network, which has gained the support of the EU Delegation in the UK and several Member States.
MS2025 marks the next phase in Black Europeans’ efforts, with national coordinators from Italy, France, Portugal, Spain, and the UK launching the Minorities Building Grounds initiative — a pan-European push to identify and dismantle racial inequity across EU institutions.
Get Involved:
Anyone interested in attending, volunteering, performing, or hosting a workshop at the Summit is encouraged to complete the expression of interest form by Thursday, 17 April 2025. Funding support may be available for selected workshop leads and facilitators.
