BE Launch EU Minorities Mandate Ahead of 2029 Elections

On 8 May 2025, Black Europeans will host an online debate and campaign launch ahead of the 2029 EU Elections, introducing the EU Minorities Mandate – a new initiative advocating for fairer democratic rights for all EU citizens, wherever they reside.

The event, titled "Are we ‘united in diversity’?", will bring together speakers including Shada Islam (EU affairs specialist), Irina Do Carmo (Black Europeans UK), Hans Kundnani (author of Euro Whiteness), and Miguel Cardoso (Black Europeans Portugal), to explore key gaps in representation, accessibility, and participation in the EU democratic process.

Currently, EU citizens living outside the Union are unable to run for office, and many EEA nationals face voting restrictions. This campaign calls for simplified processes for independent candidates, voting rights for all EU citizens regardless of location, and the introduction of elected representation for EU citizens in all EU institutions.

This event marks the beginning of a Europe-wide campaign to ensure no citizen is left without a voice.

Registration is open now. Find out more on our Event page.

Portugal's  Constitution (CRP)  does not protect fundamental rights of the Portuguese “Citizenship”   irrespective of race, origins and political affiliations that should be protected under The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union (CFR),  The European Pillar of Social Rights (EPSR) and The European Convention on Human Rights or ECHR) any  Member Estate National Citizenship Rights should be protected.  The Member Estate (colonialism)  past and present  systemic and structural systems very much undermines life opportunities and social outcomes of “PALOPs” (People Of AFRICA Portuguese Speaking Countries). These  challenges are most likely conscious, explicit, with  visible focus on  “People of African Descents”, The African Diaspora, African Migrants,  African Residents or African Portuguese Citizenship Holders.

NOTE: “PALOP” does not include Brazil…
